Thomas Heatherwick

Founder & Design Director

Heatherwick Studio · United Kingdom

Thomas Heatherwick is one of the UK’s most prolific designers. During his 20-year career, he has created diversified designs which are renowned for his novelty, innovativeness and originality.

Defying conventional classifications, Heatherwick founded his studio in 1994 to bring together architecture, urban planning, product design and interiors in a single creative workspace that works across multiple scales, locations and typologies. Heatherwick Studio has been expanded into a team of 200 designers, producers and creators, not bounded to particular signature designs. The studio’s designs are led by human experience, creating spaces and objects with a sense of humanity and low climate impact.

Based in London, Heatherwick Studio currently develops more than 30 projects across 10 countries and above, including the Azabudai Hills district, a 6-hectare mixed-use development project in Tokyo; Bay View, Google’s first ground-up campus in Silicon Valley and London in collaboration with Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG); the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town; Little Island in New York and Airo, an electronic car that purifies air while driving.

Heatherwick’s book ‘Humanise: A Maker’s Guide to Building Our World’ was published in 2023 by Penguin Books.
